The Loney – Book Review

Hello, people of the internet!

So, here’s a little background. At the beginning of this February, I uploaded a post talking about the books I wanted to read this month – you can read it here. And, round of applause please, I managed to stick to it! I read all four books this month like I planned! I was hoping to read more books (the ones I specifically were meant to be the main books I wanted to read) but I couldn’t read as much as I wanted.

Anyway, enough about me and my book-reading planning skills, here is the last book I read this month! Continue reading “The Loney – Book Review”

Caraval Book Event – Collaboration Post!

(Tip for this post: anything in bold is written by myself – anything written not in bold is Sarah!)

This is a collaboration post between Sarah, from The Little Contemporary Corner and I, Gemma, here at Gem’s Curiosity Blog! We ended up going to the same event for Caraval by Stephanie Garber in Manchester last week, which meant obviously loads of book blogger chat and catching up (okay, we also went to Uni together so we had A LOT to catch up on).

Here is what we thought about the event! Continue reading “Caraval Book Event – Collaboration Post!”

Never Let Me Go – Book Review

Hello, people of the internet!

Here is yet another book I bought years ago and never got round to reading until about a week ago. It’s a habit I really need to work on, especially when it turns out to be one of the best books I have ever read.

Hmm…what is it I am implying? Is Never Let Me Go one of the best books I have ever read? Or am I talking about a different book altogether?

Well then, why not carry on reading and find out? Continue reading “Never Let Me Go – Book Review”

My Friday Thoughts – Genres I Should Read More Of

Hello, people of the internet!

On Wednesday, I uploaded a post about my Top 5 Fiction Genres (which you can read here) and it got me thinking this: how about the other genres I neglected? What if there’s a story out there perfect for me and I haven’t read it because it’s a certain genre? Well, I have given it some thought and I want to discuss these genres in more detail.

So, here is a list of genres I no longer want to neglect! Continue reading “My Friday Thoughts – Genres I Should Read More Of”

My Top 5 Fiction Genres

Hello, people of the internet!

I have mentioned before that I don’t tend to have a favourite genre. I just read whatever I feel like reading. For example, one day I could feel like reading a light-hearted sci-fi comedy then, after reading that, I could feel in the mood for a dark contemporary mystery drama. My mood determines what I read. There are even times when I want to read non-fiction.

That being said, that doesn’t mean I treat genres equally. I know, I’m awful. But I do go for certain genres more, mostly those of fiction. And so, here is a list of the fiction genres I currently read a lot of!

But wait, there’s more!

For each genre, I have recommended a book for those who don’t normally read that particular genre, but want to.

Anyway, enough about me and my love for recommendations, here is the list! Continue reading “My Top 5 Fiction Genres”

My Friday Thoughts – My Anticipated Book Releases of 2017

Hello, people of the internet!

I’ll admit it now: I don’t look up books that hasn’t been released yet. There is no reason why I don’t. I just forget.

But no more! I have recently looked up books that are planned to be released this year of 2017 and have written a post about which ones I’m more excited about. This way, not only have I let you know which books are to be released, but also help remind me to get these before I forget.

Anyway, enough about me and my lack of planning-to-get-books-that-have-yet-to-be-released skills, here is a list of books I can’t wait for! Continue reading “My Friday Thoughts – My Anticipated Book Releases of 2017”

Caraval – Book Review

Hello, people of the internet!

Let me tell you lot one thing: the book I’ve just finished reading has been talked about and is currently a best-selling book. I don’t normally go for books which have a lot of hype, mainly because sometimes hype can make a book sound like a masterpiece when in actuality it is simply okay.

But then I heard that it is reminiscent of Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus – one of my favourite books of all time – I just had to read it.

Does it live up to the hype? Continue reading “Caraval – Book Review”
