May Summary

Hello, people of the internet!

So, today is May 31st – that means it’s the last day of Blog Every Day in May (BEDM)! Woohoo! It’s been exhausting, but I’m so happy to have participated in BEDM. I’ve been introduced to more lovely bloggers and learnt more about how to blog effectively.

Would I do BEDM again? Maybe.

So, here’s what I got to up this May! Continue reading “May Summary”

Call It Dog – Book Review

Hello, people of the internet!

I bought this book about a year ago because it was set in a country that I haven’t read a lot about: South Africa. Since I’m always after something different, I thought this book was right up my street!

So, I have finally read it and this is what I think of it!

Side note: I will be talking about the ending a bit, so I’ll put a spoiler warning here.

Books vs Film Adaptations: Should They Even Be Compared?

Hello, people of the internet!

Today, I feel like discussing something. Not just anything, but something that I have been thinking about for quite a while.

Many films are adaptations from books and so they are compared to one another, often with the thought that the books are better than the films.

But what gets me thinking is this: should they even be compared in the first place?

Spoiler alerts for Coraline (heck, I’ve been talking about this story for a while…) and The Lovely Bones. Continue reading “Books vs Film Adaptations: Should They Even Be Compared?”

Books That Have Stayed: Coraline

Hello, people of the internet!

This is my series discussing books that I read years ago that are not only books I love, but have something(s) about them that make them stand out, memorable and have taught me important lessons.

So when I was thinking about books that have stayed with me, one popped into my head not only suddenly, but stayed there as if waiting for me to write this post.

And as I was planning this, I realised why it has stayed with me. It was for two reasons: it was the first horror to actually scare me; and it taught me an important lessons about bravery.

Spoiler alert: I will be talking about the plot to Coraline in great detail. You have been warned!

My Friday Thoughts – The Book That Made Me A Reader Again

Hello, people of the internet!

I’ve been thinking recently about my whole reading experience, as in my reading experience throughout my whole life. I tend to say that I have always been a reader from the moment I began to read, but that isn’t strictly true. Heck, if I had always been a reader, then the book that made me a reader would be The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle (which is legendary, by the way).

I hit a year long reading slump during my early teenage years, which is the longest reading slump I encountered so far. I changed as a person and the books I used to read became nostalgic, but not something I would read on a daily basis. Other people began to read romances, but at the time, it wasn’t my kind of book. I still read books, like the Harry Potter series, but not as often as I once did. For someone who always had a book to read to suddenly go through such a long slump, it was a very strange time.

So, it was time for me to explore books aimed at young teenagers. It took a while, but I found it.

This is the book that made me a reader again. Continue reading “My Friday Thoughts – The Book That Made Me A Reader Again”

On The Other Side – Book Review

Hello, people of the internet!

So I have been keeping to my New Year’s resolution of reading more romances as I have finished reading this book. What I haven’t been keeping to, however, is just to read a little everyday. Why?

To put it simply, I just couldn’t put it down!

(Before I begin my review, I will put a spoiler alert right…here! You have been warned.) Continue reading “On The Other Side – Book Review”
