My Friday Thoughts – The Book I Will Not Finish?

Hello, people of the internet!

For those who don’t know, I very rarely do not finish books because there is always a chance the book may improve later on. Yes, it would be better if I just left them, but there is a voice in my head that constantly says, “You never know, maybe the book gets better? Why waste the opportunity?”

Why do I do this to myself?

However, there has been a book recently that I have tried to read, but I haven’t picked up nor, to be honest, want to pick up.

And that book is… Continue reading “My Friday Thoughts – The Book I Will Not Finish?”

The Pier Falls – Book Review

Hello, people of the internet!

I don’t think I read as many short stories as I should. Even though I write them now and again, I just don’t read a lot of them. They are interesting forms of literature and are just as powerful as novels. So when I came across this collection of short stories written by Mark Haddon, I was very interested. I have only read his most popular work, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and I realised that since Mark Haddon wrote that novel in a first person narrative from Christopher Boone, who has autistic-like behaviours, I didn’t know how he would write with other characters. To investigate further, I got this short story collection to see if his writing is just as brilliant here as it is with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

So, I decided to present this review as a Top 9 list, showing you lovely people which stories I liked the most. Because who doesn’t like Top *insert number here* lists?

Anyway, enough about me and my love for lists, here is what I thought of Mark Haddon’s short story collection! Continue reading “The Pier Falls – Book Review”

December 2016 Book Haul

Hello, people of the internet!

This month’s been a great month for getting new books, thanks for Christmas, of course. I’m very happy with these books. Only one is from an authors I’m familiar with. The others I’ve now just been introduced to. I have read romance, a genre I’m not entirely used to, and it’s currently a genre I’m still curious about.

Anyway, enough about me and my new explorations in the world of books. Here are the books from December 2016! Continue reading “December 2016 Book Haul”

My True Love Gave To Me – Book Review

Hello, people of the internet!

I have mentioned before, in my I am the Reader post, that I’m not a huge fan of romance books, but that I’m keeping an open mind. Well, thanks to The Little Contemporary Corner‘s Christmas Read-Along, I picked up My True Love Gave to Me. This is a collection of twelve, romantic short stories by various authors based around winter, Christmas and other holidays during this time of year. I felt I had a good chance of getting a better look at the romance genre with short stories and seeing if this genre is really the genre for me.

What did I think of it? Well, here’s how I’m going to conduct this review: with a Top 12 List. I felt that this book is a mixed bag. There were some stories I thought were kind of ‘meh’, others I felt could have been better, and others I fell in love with. So, I thought what better way to explain these stories and how I feel about them then with a Top 12 list? I mean, I have thought of other ways, but I prefer the Top 12 idea.

Now, enough about me and my book reviewing strategies, here is my Top 12 Stories from My True Love Gave to Me. Continue reading “My True Love Gave To Me – Book Review”
